08:09 am - Support Obama on health care reform On Wednesday, President Obama reaffirmed his support for a public health insurance option--the key piece of health care reform that will provide coverage for all Americans and help bring costs down.
But as the health care fight heats up, right-wing lobbyists and conservatives in Congress are working hard to kill the public health insurance option.
I signed a petition today telling Congress I stand with Obama on health care reform. Can you join me at the link below?

"Verbal-linguistic intelligence has to do with words, spoken or written. People with verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words and dates. They tend to learn best by reading, taking notes, listening to lectures, and via discussion and debate. They are also frequently skilled at explaining, teaching and oration or persuasive speaking. Those with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn foreign languages very easily as they have high verbal memory and recall, and an ability to understand and manipulate syntax and structure. Careers which suit those with this intelligence include writers, lawyers, philosophers, journalists, politicians and teachers." 04:23 pm - Stop Forced Arbitration Recently, I've been learning about a dangerous way for employers and companies to avoid being accountable to employees and consumers. I'm talking about forced arbitration - a practice which traps employees and consumers into waiving their rights to sue, participate in a class-action lawsuit, or to appeal an unfair resolution to a conflict.
Forced arbitration clauses are buried into the fine print of contracts and terms of agreements for employment, insurance, home-building, car loans and leases, credit cards, nursing facilities, and more - clauses that people like you and I are agreeing to every day!
Thankfully, there is already legislation moving through Congress to put an end to forced arbitration. The Arbitration Fairness Act would disallow employers and companies from using forced arbitration in civil rights, employment, consumer, or franchise disputes.
Join me in asking members of Congress to support the Arbitration Fairness Act, which will end the practice of forcing employees and consumers to sign away their rights to legal protections and access to courts.

09:26 pm - Health Care For All We can guarantee healthcare for all if we give every American the freedom to choose between keeping their private insurance - if they have any - and a universally available public healthcare option like Medicare.
Last Thursday, Gov. Howard Dean challenged us to gather 10,000 supporters for the campaign by Friday night and we did it! Then on Saturday, DFA members did it again. On Sunday? Another 10,000 signers. On Monday, our friends at TrueMajority joined the cause bringing 20,000 more supporters onboard in one day.
Great news, but we aren't even close to done.
This is the biggest issue campaign DFA has ever undertaken. Our goal: Get 250,000 petition signatures and deliver them personally to every member of Congress before Obama's healthcare legislation gets out of committee. Delivering the petition is only the beginning of this aggressive campaign which will include neighborhood canvasses, congressional meetings, calls, rallies, and targeted ads to move the message in the media.
We need all hands on deck to win.
ADD YOUR NAME NOW -- THEN SEND IT TO A FRIEND! http://standwithdrdean.com/dfa2
HMO's and Insurance Companies are already working to stop us. They may have lobbyists and money, but they don't have the American people on their side -- and with your help, we're going to prove it.
Please add your name today and then get at least two more friends, family, or co-workers to join you. Will you be one of the many Americans who will fight with us to guarantee healthcare for all?
STAND WITH DR. DEAN AND GET YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN YOU
Thank you for everything you do.

09:50 pm - The next cool book I want to read soon... ...is called Palimpsest. Just recently came out so I'll have to pony up the cash if I can't be patient enough for the library to get it. I loves me an author who is gifted at the turn of phrase and whose writing is fluid and lyrical.
More about this book can be found here:

09:48 pm - For Californians The following is an excerpt from a California paper. I think every pet lover should take a moment and call following number to voice disapproval.
California Gov Schwarzenegger seems to think taking pets to the vet is a luxury. Evidently our Governor feels that one way to raise money for the state in these times is to create a 9% veterinary services tax.
Vet medication and other products are already subject to sales tax, but the Governor wants to add a separate tax on services -- classifying veterinary care a luxury item.In addition to pet owners, this will decimate rescues already struggling to pay vet bills.
For many pets and strays, it's literally a death sentence. Please take 15 seconds to stop this NOW. You can call the Governor's automated line any time, follow prompts to note your opposition, and it will take less than 15 seconds... You don't even have to talk to anyone.
Simply: 1) Call the Governor's office at 916-445-2841
2) Select your language choice. Press "1" for English.
3) Press "5"
4) Press "1" to select the issue of extending the sales tax to veterinary services.
5) Press "2" to "OPPOSE" the Veterinary Services Tax proposal.
6) PLEASE COPY AND FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW IN CALIFORNIA. Current Mood: pissed off

09:02 am - Help stop Wall Street's Greed Did you hear that Wall Street gave out $18.4 billion in bonuses in 2008? $18.4 billion to the people who crippled our economy with their recklessness and greed and then took $700 billion of our money. Outrageous, right?
Well, I just signed a petition urging Congress to put enforceable, common-sense limits on salaries at all the banks taking taxpayer dollars. Can you join me at the link below?

20 days into the Gaza crisis and the humanitarian crisis there gets worse each day. 398 women and children are dead, another 4700 injured, 750,000 lack access to water and one million are without electricity. 08:55 am - Bank of America - Stop Payment on the Bailout Taxpayers have given Bank of America $25 billion in bailout funds to help jumpstart our economy, but instead the bank has misspent on executive salaries and corporate jets. Then Bank of America took even more money from cash-strapped states by not paying for workers’ healthcare.
It’s time for Bank of America to use its taxpayer-funded windfall to support a real economic recovery and provide health care for its 247,000 workers—or give the money back. Bank of America should also:
Keep over 12,000 troubled borrowers in their homes with executive bonus money End the practice of unilaterally changing credit cardholder agreements. Sign new leases with renters who live in buildings that are being foreclosed upon Commit to providing affordable healthcare to all of its employees and their dependents. Strict enforcement of whistleblower protections to workers who report bank fraud and predatory practices

07:12 pm - Subject: Stop the right-wing from blocking Obama's Attorney General President Obama's nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder, is eminently qualified - he served as Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton Administration, and was also the first African-American U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
But Senator John Cornyn of Texas has a problem with Holder - the fact that maybe Holder might consider prosecuting Bush Administration officials who illegally tortured Americans and foreigners. Sen. Cornyn has already succeeded in delaying the vote on Holder's confirmation for a week, and he's threatened to bury the vote permanently by putting a hold on it.
I just took action to tell Senator Cornyn not to hinder President Obama's agenda - and not to protect torturers. I hope you will, too.
Please have a look and take action.

10:47 am - Fresno County jobless rate increases Fresno County's unemployment rate climbed in November to 12.1% as a gain in health and teaching jobs failed to offset losses in agriculture, trade, government and construction, the state Employment Development Department reported today.
The jobless rate increased from 11.3% in October and 8.9% in November 2007. Officials noted that agriculture lost 4,500 jobs between October and November, and construction employment declined by 1,300 jobs in the year-over-year period. Government also lost 1,000 jobs in that period.
